It is with regrets the Center announces the postponement of the annual P3 Conference, originally scheduled for April 25, 2018. The conference is to be rescheduled for the fall of 2018. Please stay tuned for further information.

On June 12, 2017 Center Director Dr. Jonathan Gifford spoke at the Association for the Improvement of American Infrastructure’s (AIAI) 2017 Annual Members Meeting, presenting the Center’s “P3 Evidence” research project as part of the program’s University Collaboration session.

The project explores P3 sponsor objectives and corresponding project outcomes, and Dr. Gifford outlined the research methodology, case study findings, evidence base, and next steps for future research.

Research conducted by Center director Dr. Jonathan Gifford and Center affiliates Zhenua Chen, Nobuhiko Daito has been published in the journal Transport Policy.

Socioeconomic impacts of transportation public-private partnerships: A dynamic CGE assessment,” Chen, Zhenhua, Nobuhiko Daito, Jonathan L. Gifford.  2017. Transport Policy. 58, 80-87

The paper investigates the socioeconomic impacts of transportation infrastructure P3’s using a dynamic computable general equilibrium (CGE) model applied to the U.S. Commonwealth of Virginia’s I-495 Express Lanes project. More information can be found here.

On April 25, 2017, the Center for Transportation Public-Private Partnership Policy hosted its fourth annual Spring conference, exploring Emerging Infrastructure Initiatives and Potential Roles for P3s.

The morning panel, Emerging Infrastructure Initiatives, moderated by Janet Kavinoky of Vulcan Materials Company, featured remarks from Robert Poole of the Reason Foundation, Bryan Grote of Mercator Advisors (presentation materials), Martin Klepper of the US Department of Transportation’s Build America Bureau (presentation materials), and Virginia Delegate Randall Minchew.  This panel was followed by remarks from Virginia Secretary of Transportation Aubrey Layne and a lively Q&A session with the secretary and morning panel.

Following lunch with featured speaker Amando Madan of Skanska Infrastructure Development, the afternoon panel focused on P3s in the Mid-Atlantic Region & Beyond.  Moderated by Michael Schneider of HDR, the afternoon speakers included Javier Tamargo of I-77 Mobility Partners (presentation materials), Sharon Greene of HDR, and Jennifer Mayer of Living Cities (presentation materials).

Center GRA Lauren McCarthy was recently welcomed at the Association for the Improvement of American Infrastructure’s (AIAI) 2017 Public-Private Partnership Conference & Expo as the organization’s first AIAI Scholar.  Throughout the conference titled “Where the Public and Private Sector Meet,” Lauren’s experience explored important community engagement issues and provided meaningful contacts with both public and private-sector P3 practitioners.  Following her return, Lauren has worked to incorporate her conference insights into the Center’s developing research paper, “The Impact of Political Risks on U.S. Surface Transportation Infrastructure.”
